Japanese holidays in 2019

Japan is famous with the number of holidays. However, we see a lot of variation of national holidays on which they do not close the stores, but they show the importance in the Japanese culture. Please find the list of holidays for the year 2019.
When they are concerning the holidays that the stores are closed, we mention them in bold.


January
1st of January: New Year
14th of January (the second monday of January) : Seijin no hi, Coming of age day, people celebrate the young persons who became 20 years old connsidering that they became adults

4th of February: Risshun,  the day of the arrival of springtime according to the traditional Japanese calendar
11th of February: Kenkokukinenbi, National Foundation Day
14th of February: Saint Valentine

March
3rd of March: Hina matsuri, girl's festival
14th of March: White day
21th of March: Shunbun no hi, Spring equinox

April
29th of April: Showa no hi, Day of Showa (beginning of the Golden Week)
30th of April : Abdication of the emperor
6th of April to 26th of May (31 days): Setouchi Triennale de Setouchi of Spring

From 1st to 15th of June: ochugen, we offer a midsummer gift to the persons to who we feel indebtedness

15th of July (the 3rd Monday of July) : Umi no hi, Sea day
27th of July: Ushinohi: the midsummer day of the ox: we eat eel to regain energy and stamine to alleviate suffering from the summer heat

From 19th of July to 25th of August (38 days): Setouchi Triennale in Summer

August

8th of August: Risshu, beginning of the autumn according to the Japanese traditional calendar
11th of August: Yama no hi, Mountain day
From 13th to 15th of August: O-bon, a traditional Japanese event to welcome the spirits of ancestors.
