Nara park (Nara Kōen)

Nara Park (Nara Kōen) is a public park in the city of Nara, Japan, located at the foot of Mount Wakakusa, founded in 1880 and administered by Nara Prefecture. The park is one of the scenic beauty spots designated by the Department of Education. More than 1,200 wild sika deer (or shika) roaming freely in the park are also under the ministry designation, classified "natural treasure". Although the official area of ​​the park is about 502 ha, the area which includes the Tōdai-ji, Kōfuku-ji and Kasuga-taisha rights-of-way that are either on the edge or surrounded by Nara Park, makes at 660 ha.
While Nara Park is generally associated with the main estates of the temples and the park proper, the previously private gardens are now open to the public. These gardens make use of the temple buildings as auxiliary features of their landscapes.

The park include in its site the National Museum of Nara and Todai-ji, where the world's largest wooden building houses a Buddha statue some 16 meters high.
