Miyagi

Miyagi prefecture is composed by high mountains and verdurous nature but also by a large plain that surrounds its prefectural capital: Sendai. The city sadly became famous abroad after the March 11th earthquake in 2011. But Sendai has many treasures to offer. Date Masamune - warlord who reigned upon Tohoku region - built his castle there in 1601: some parts are still preserved as original. And regional industries such as electronics, household electronical and food-processing are florishing.
Come and discover its hidden places such as the spectacle of  water colors changing according to the weather at Okama crater's lake (Mount Zao); or the small island Tashirojima and its big populationf of cats.
The Naruko lacquer is part of the national traditional art craft since 1991. If you have time, visit its birthplace in the thermal village of Naruko (Osaki) to learn about the ancient fabrication process.
During your trip, grab a bit of the typical local dish gyûtan: beef tongues grilled with salt or miso.
