Zao

The winter feature of Zao is Jyuhyo. Since Zao is rich in nature, there are many spots where to visit through the year.
Miyagi prefecture and Yamagata prefecture is connected by the mountain road “Zao Echo Line" opened in 1962 where you enjoy masculine scenery and alpen flowers blooms in spring and leaves changing their colour beautifully in autumn.
The mountains of the Zao mountain range are active volcanoes and that the volcanic lake Okama was made, a deep blue and very mysterious lake. It’s also referred as Goshikinuma because its colour changes several times a day depending on the angle of the sunlight. (perimeter of about 1.5 kilometers and water depth of about 25 meters.)
We also recommend you to visit Takimi viewing spot where you can see Sankai taki falls (elevation 181 m) and Fudo taki falls(elevation 54 m) at the same time.
