Fukuoka

Fukuoka prefecture is surrounded by the sea on three seafronts and 18% of its territory is covered by natural parks including luxuriant national parks.
The biggest city of the region and with the same name stands there. With an history older than 2000 years old as well as point of access to Asia, Fukuoka is the city the most influenced by mainland in Japan.
As a matter of fact, the city is closer to Seoul and Shanghai than to Tokyo! Born from the fusion between the feodal town of Fukuoka and the commercial town of Hakata in 1889, Fukuoka is currently one of Japan's most dynamic cities. This prefectoral capital is especially busy during the Hakata Dontaku festival: 800 years old, the festival celebrates the local lord by thanking him and wishing him prosperity. A colorful and long parade of dancers, musicians, and many other people wearing traditional clothes walk the streets. Festivities take place in may (during "the Golden week") and attracts more than 2 million of visitors each year.
