This prefectoral capital is especially busy during the Hakata Dontaku festival: 800 years old, the festival celebrates the local lord by thanking him and wishing him prosperity. A colorful and long parade of dancers, musicians, and many other people wearing traditional clothes walk the streets. Festivities take place in may (during "the Golden week") and attracts more than 2 million of visitors each year.
