Iwate

Divided into sea and mountain, Iwate prefecture's landscapes are breath-taking with folkloric villages that will bring you into a legendary world and temples that will guide you towards the heaven of buddhist culture on earth. With its prefectural capital of Morioka, Iwate has the lowest density of population among any other prefectures in Japan (except Hokkaidô). But don't be fooled, this prefecture hosts a variety of season festivals, traditional dances and indigenous tales told by elders that will accompany you during your trip. You will find a japanese historical jewel: the site Hiraizumi, designated as UNESCO World Heritage; as wellas Ryusendo cave, a national treasure.
The region has diverse popular local dishes: the Iwate beef and "three big types of noddles".
