Description

The tour begins in Ikebukuro, one of Tokyo's three largest city centers with Shinjuku and Shibuya.
Ikebukuro is a city that has become popular for fashion and subcultures in recent years. But this time, we will discover the life safety center, a disaster prevention center using the latest advances in technology to simulate a magnitude 7 earthquake as same level as Tohoku and Hanshin-Awaji in 1995.
You will feel real earthquake and learn how to prepare natural disasters that will be useful in case of those disasters occurs.
Often accompanied by fire, you will also learn how to proceed in this case. (The opportunity to learn how to use a fire extinguisher in realistic conditions!).

We will leave Ikebukuro for the suburbs of Tokyo. We will visit the temple of Kishimojin, surrounded by beautiful Japanese Zelkova trees, known as that of the children eater goddess, but later reformed her character.

Heading to Kishimojin station to take a tram which can not help attracting people.
In the early twentieth century, the tram began to run in Tokyo, replacing the old carriages, and it was in 1911 that the section of the Toden Arakawa line opened.
It is one of the oldest tram lines in Tokyo, and still retains this aspect of the past.
Today it is called the "Sakura Tram" running along a beautiful cherry alley whose flowers are bloomed in the spring.

We will then visit Sugamo, a neighborhood known as "papis and grannies street” due to the popularity among elder people. It is also called "Grannies' Harajuku".
It is in this district that we find the Buddha statue "Togenuki Jizo", the divine power of healing diseases. That is the reason why Sugamo is popular among elder people. Sugamo has an atmosphere like an unchanged town since olden time, but actualy it changed to entertain elder people, that makes sense in the country hosting the oldest population in the world.

Not far from there is a beautiful traditional garden that once belonged to a lord of the Edo period.
Here you could admire a lake and a small hill. This former lord, under the authority of the Shogun, has spent more than seven years of his life to achieve it. The garden survived from the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo Air Raid without major damage and remains its beauty the way it was. It becomes one of the healing spots in midtown of Tokyo.

We will then take a train to Yanaka Ginza. This small shopping district is very popular, these small streets reminiscent of Japan of the past, the opportunity to end the day with a glass of excellent Japanese beer or a delicious sake in a picturesque bar.
